This morning I'm on my way to work. I have to stop because the bin lorry has stopped slap bang in the middle of the road, with a parked car next to it so that no-one can get through. He then waves me on, expecting me to get my car through a gap big enough for a motorbike. When I don't move it finally dawns on him that there's no way I can get through so he moves forward to where he could have quite easily stopped in the first place. I still can't get through now because there's a car coming the other way, but as I'm patiently waiting, one of the binmen leaps into the road towing two bins, dives across in front of the oncoming car (brakes slamming on) and unloads his bins. Finally, I can get past.
Why do they insist on parking in the middle of the road or blocking it all the time? He only had to move forward a few metres and everything would have been fine. And do they
want to get themselves killed?
I mean it wasn't a major inconvience and I appreciate they have a thankless job to do, but why do these guys never consider other people trying to use the roads? Nearer work the same situation happens on a regular basis, where the bin lorry goes up the road on one side, and the recycling lorry goes down the road on the other. And they
always end up stopping opposite each other so the road is
completely blocked. I swear they do it just for a laugh.
